Privacy Policy

GeeDrive for Plex ("GeeDrive", "the app", "we", "our") is an Android Automotive OS and Android media application that allows users to stream music from their own personal Plex Media Server. This Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information when you use it.

1. Information We Collect

GeeDrive does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to us or any third party. The app does not have its own backend server, analytics service, or data collection infrastructure.

The only information the app handles locally on your device includes:

• Plex account credentials (access token): When you sign in with your Plex account, an access token is obtained from Plex and stored locally on your device using Android's secure DataStore. This token is used solely to authenticate requests to your personal Plex Media Server and is never transmitted to us.
• Plex server connection details: The address and name of your Plex Media Server are stored locally on your device to enable playback. This information is never shared with us.
• Playback state: Your current queue, playback position, and settings (shuffle, repeat, ReplayGain preferences) are stored locally on your device to restore your session between app launches. This data never leaves your device.
• Audio cache: Audio files streamed from your Plex server are temporarily cached on your device to enable smooth playback. This cache is managed entirely on your device and is cleared when the app is uninstalled.

2. How We Use Information

All data handled by GeeDrive is used exclusively to provide the core functionality of the app, streaming music from your personal Plex Media Server. Specifically:

• Your Plex access token is used to authenticate API requests to Plex servers
• Your server address is used to establish a connection for media streaming
• Playback state is used to restore your listening session on app restart
• The audio cache is used to enable seamless track transitions and reduce buffering

We do not use any of this information for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose other than providing the app's stated functionality.

3. Information Shared with Plex

GeeDrive communicates directly with Plex's services and your personal Plex Media Server. When you sign in, the app connects to plex.tv to obtain an access token using Plex's standard device authentication flow. During playback, the app sends standard Plex timeline and scrobble updates to your Plex server so that your listening history, play counts, and Now Playing status are reflected accurately in Plex.

These communications are governed by Plex's Privacy Policy. GeeDrive is an independent third-party application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to Plex, Inc.

4. Internet and Network Access

GeeDrive requires internet access to connect to your Plex Media Server and to stream audio. The app also uses network state information to detect connectivity changes (for example, switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data) so it can automatically reconnect to your server on the best available connection. No network activity data is collected or shared with us.

5. Data Storage and Security

All data stored by GeeDrive resides on your device only:

• Credentials and settings are stored using Android's DataStore with device-level encryption
• The audio cache is stored in the app's private cache directory
• No data is uploaded to any external server operated by us

When you uninstall the app, all locally stored data, including credentials, settings, and the audio cache, is permanently deleted from your device.

6. Children's Privacy

GeeDrive is not directed at children under the age of 13. The app does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

7. Third-Party Services

GeeDrive does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or crash reporting services. The only external service the app communicates with is Plex (plex.tv and your personal Plex Media Server), as described in Section 3 above.

8. Your Rights

Since GeeDrive does not collect or store any personal data on our servers, there is no personal data held by us to access, correct, or delete. All data stored locally on your device can be cleared by:

• Signing out of the app (clears your Plex credentials and server settings)
• Clearing the app's cache via Android Settings → Apps → GeeDrive → Clear Cache
• Uninstalling the app (removes all local data permanently)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you may have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you are a California resident, you may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Since we do not collect personal data, these rights are satisfied by the local data controls described above.

If you are located in Canada, this app complies with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
